So you smoke. Your breath smells, your clothes smell of tobacco smoke, your teeth are more yellow then they should be. If your partner doesn’t smoke, he or she is constantly aware of your habit, especially when kissing. Your life expectation is lower then people who don’t smoke. Your stamina is less.
But you don’t care. (You do care, but you tell yourself (or others) may be that you don’t)
Maybe you have a bag full of excuses why you don’t want to stop, the same excuses that you hear from others that don’t stop smoking. You know.
Maybe you tried to stop smoking a few times, and started again, after a day, a week or a year. You feel week, because you can’t really stop smoking.
Maybe you started to smoke when you were young, and now your are over 45, and you know that you are getting in the danger zone, the age where heart attacks and other nasty health problems, because of smoking are (very) likely to appear. But you are week, and while caughing you know that something nasty has to happen before you try to stop again.
Maybe you have to carry a (smoking) friend to his grave who died at 45. A smoking related heart attack.
Maybe you are a bit like me then.
Keanu Reeves in the movie Constantine, suffers from lung cancer, and know he has to die, because of his smoking habit. Because of his “good deeds” the Devil frees him of his lung cancer, a very graphic scene, where the Devil pulls two dirty black tarrballs out of his chest. The final scene of Constantine, where Kenau Reeves is viewed from the back while standing on a balcony makes us believe the he is lighting a cigarette. He is however eating some candy. Pfieuwww. He doesn’t smoke anymore.
I have a bunch of Nicorette Tabs waiting for me, already for a year or two. They will relieve me of stress, no cold turkey for me. Soon I will stop smoking again.
But I know, stopping smoking is not something you do in a month, I know I stopped smoking before. People say it takes 7 years to really stop smoking.
I hope I will live that long. Caugh Caugh.
How about you?
