Filed under: Random Thoughts — Gede @ 5:07 pm Schapelle Corby was caught with a substantial amount of marijuana at the airport in Bali. Indonesia, like many other Asian Countries, has a harsh punishment system for drug traffickers, and users. A lot of people Australia seems to believe she is innocent, and the nation mourns about the 20 years sentence she has got. There are plenty of websites full with support for her, all afraid she would be shot. Thank God she got only 20 years. for now.
People are comparing the sentences for the Bali Bombers and the sentence for Schapelle Corby, they feel its unfair. People want to get their aid for the Tsunami back from Indonesia, and some people even want a new Tsunami for Indonesia.
I run an expat forum in Bali, and you find the anger there as well as moderate views from Australians. A few days ago a “Doctor” came by on that forum, and posted a message about a medical report and some other negative information about her, I cannot verify if its all true or not. I until now didn’t give it much thought, but I tried to find similar information about Schapelle on the internet, but there is none to be found. So, either this Doctor has inside information, there is censorship from other sources, or he made it up. I cannot tell. But it seems real enough.
In short the report says that Schapelle Corby had various traces of drugs like, Marijuana, Morphine, LSD, Methaqualone (an African drug?) and Amphetamine in her blood. She seems to have a liver problem due to alcohol abuse. This same Doctor also talks about the facts(?) that her family has a record of drug investigations, like Schapelle, and that her closest friends in majority think she is guilty.
Update: I removed this post on the forum, maybe a hoax.
I also had my doubts about the guilt of Schapelle, but if this report only half true, my doubts are gone, she did it. I posted a link to this report on one of the Schapelle Support forums, in the hope to get some feedback, but it took the forum admin just 5 minutes to delete the message and ban me. Schapelle can’t be touched, she is a national hero. A part of a poem on a support site:
You’re not alone.
An Australian nation
stands behind
All your friends at
home, are standing
near and by your side
Don’t get me wrong, I also think 20 years is a lot of time, but the Indonesians have a different opinion about drugs in their country. Its not like Amsterdam, where I am from.
Now here in Bali, I regularly hear about raids where the locals get their drug inspections, specially on Saturday nights. Even in relative quiet places like Lovina the police swarms out with whole truck loads of officers to make Bali “clean”.
Now they have to ban smoking, make some regulations about (traffic) pollution and forbid western fast food. Bali will be the healthiest place on earth. Also for your kids.
Update:
The Schapelle section on the forum above has been removed on request of the members…
